Happy Holidays, Everyone!
I've been thinking a lot this year about giving gifts to charities. There are so many valuable and worthwhile organizations that can use our help. This year, Heifer International really got my attention because of the sustainable way their organization works to get communities in need out of poverty. This led to my decision to donate a goat. Yes, a goat!
As some of you may know, I really like goats. Maybe it’s the Capricorn in me, but I think they are amazing, funny sounding creatures with adorable behaviors. Most of all, I love their ability to scale mountains like nobody’s business. So, when I found out that I could donate a goat to a family in need in Africa, I got kinda excited! Here’s how it works...
When you give a share of a goat through Heifer International, you provide a family with a source of improved nutrition, an income, and the tools to help lift themselves out of poverty. And, every goat comes with the obligation to pass on the gift - when their goat has its first female offspring, the family gives it away to another family in need. So, when you and others get a goat, you're not just helping one family. The impact radiates outward from a single family to an entire community.
I love how sustainable and empowering this system is. So, anyone who decides to donate a share of a goat between now and Christmas will get 20% off their next acupuncture treatment this month. Just bring me your receipt at your next appointment.
Heifer International also raises funds for other animals such as pigs, camels, llamas, ducks, honey bees, and more. If you have another animal you’d like to give to a family in need, I’ll honor that donation too.
There are so many small ways that we can make a difference. Consider giving yourself the gift of joy that comes from helping others this season!
